Jay Heminway

Founder - 1940-2019

Jay Heminay was more than just the founder of Green & Red - Jay’s unique vision and touch continue to pervade everything here and inspire us to continue to make the fantastic wine Jay started making way back in 1977. Jay was originally trained as a sculptor and the majestic vineyards here, at Green & Red, are his greatest work of art and legacy.  You can read more about Jay’s journey founding Green & Red on the “Our Story” Page.

Tobin Heminway

Proprietor

Tobin Heminway, Jay’s daughter, grew up between the vines here at Green & Red. Prior to taking over the vineyard operations, Tobin lived in New York where she produced and edited films with a degree from NYU. Tobin eventually transitioned to operating Nest Decor, a successful interior design firm in New York and Rhode Island. Jay and Tobin had long planned for Tobin to take charge at Green & Red and she has been active here for many years, working annual harvests and tending the bottling line.

Raymond Nicola Hannigan

Counsel, Cellar Rat, Husband

Ray was practicing law — real estate litigation in New York City — until January, of 2020, when he and owner Tobin made the long-planned plunge and moved to Napa Valley to take over Green & Red.  Growing up in an Italian family, where food and wine were key parts of life, Ray has dreamed of making fine wine here at Green & Red.  Ray wears many hats at Green & Red, acting as counsel, “Cellar Rat,” under Winemaker Aaron Whitlatch, and supportive husband to owner Tobin Heminway.

Aaron Whitlatch

Winemaker

Growing up in central Illinois,  Aaron's grandparents instilled in him a passion for farming, as well as all things rustic and genuine.  He came to Green & Red after five vintages as the Assistant Winemaker at Mayacamas, renowned for making wines in a classic style from organically farmed vineyards. Before focusing on winemaking, Whitlatch had worked as a biotech scientist and as a viticulturist. He is eager to combine perspectives with Salvador in the vineyards, and to continue crafting wines of distinction from these amazing soils.

UNO

Vineyard Dog

Also knows as “The Dude” (try to guess why), Uno may have started out as a “Designer Dog,” at a NYC pet shop on Christopher Street, but like Tobin & Ray he’s made the full plunge and is a bona fide Vineyard Dog now.  Half-chihuahua, half-rat terrier (ChiRat or Rat-Cha), UNO’s an old man now, over 13, but still the cutest “permanent puppy” one will ever meet. Every morning Uno is chomping at the bit to jump in the Mahindra Jeep and head down to the Winery and help out.
